southwestern flair

It’s impossible to miss the southwestern trend that is incredibly hot down in Miami right now. It’s the first thing that jumps at you when you enter almost any shop. One thing is for sure, everyone is falling for the Navajo aesthetic.

Whether it’s a statement piece, a beaded accessory, garments dripping with fringe, feathers or a motif tee shirt, this Winter, it’s all about high-contrast Navajo patterns as we’ve seen parading down the FW 2011 runways of Proenza Schouler and Isabel Marant.

The chic Native American flair is currently available everywhere from fast-fashion shops to high-end designer boutiques and is featured in clothing, home furnishings, jewelry and even bedding.

The best way to rock these colored-rich pieces is by pairing them up with solid color block separates or complement them with accenting, vibrant colors to give it less of a traditional style and more of a modern, contemporary edge to it. However, simple styling is highly recommended. You can either stick to a color scheme or match big prints with small prints or if the pattern is too bold, try toning it down with a blazer or a biker jacket- balance is key.

I went hardcore with the trend during my time there, you’ll be seeing plenty of Navajo flair in my closet! Here’s some inspo I stumbled upon at shops and street style.

The ultimate summer fashion accessory…

So I thought I had seen it all here in Milan-the young teenager walking her little, black piggy along the streets of Porta Romana had been by far the gold medalist of all absurdities, until this man and his extravagant pet rooster came along.

I must admit there’s a strange coolness to this funny ensemble. The black hoodie, the baggy jeans, the beanie hat à la David Beckham, the suave hand-in-pockets posture, the quirky smile…this guy definitely knows his shit. That’s it, I’m a fan!
